That’s right, in Theory, Tall is Beautiful. In reality, being tall can sometime be a major headache–especially when shopping. Theory, the clothing design label offered in most of the top NY stores, takes away the headache. They don’t offer “Long” sizes, but most of the pants will fit someone who is 5′10″ or 5′11″ (that leaves me out, unless the pants have cuffs–which they sometimes have).
Theory’s web site is interesting. You cannot buy from them directly online, although its clothes may be available at other online retailers. At the Theory site you can see how the clothes look together with a drag and drop feature. There is also a blog with such catagories as fashion, music, culture, green, lifestyle, design and media. Check Theory out at: www.theory.com

Hardtail, the California-based, fashionable sportswear company, is well-known for its long inseam sweat pants. Their classic stretch-sweatpant design has a “roll” top, which folds at the waistband to accommodate any leg-length. In jeans, I need a 37-inch inseam, and Hardtail sweats fit me perfectly! They’re the perfect pants for a yoga class at the gym, a shopping day with the girls, or dashing around doing errands. The line is available at Bloomingdales. Pants prices range from $40-$60, and come in a variety of colors. www.hardtailforever.com

Zara is a clothing store from Spain that offers stylish but reasonably-priced clothes. It has several stores in New York City and keeps inventory levels low so that new styles can be brought in on a regular basis. While Zara does not specifically offer tall sizes, the pant lengths tend to run long.
I have to run. I’m going to Zara for a weekend outfit.

I have a closet of Ellen Tracy suits for work. The designer doesn’t carry a tall line, but the cuts and hemlines favor tall females. There is always at least an 1 1/4 hemline that can be taken down on the pants and arm sleeves, and the jackets have a long cut. The line is available at all the major department stores. The actual styles and colors may differ in each store based on the buyer, geographic area and store environment. Since I live in NYC, I tend to shop at Bloomingdales which carries the Ellen Tracy line.
If you want basic pieces, remember Ellen Tracy: www.ellentracy.com
